Let's begin our journey with a trip to right here on the glorious shores of Eastern Long Island.
Duckwalk: 2011 Gewurztraimer Late Harvest:
For those Riesling lovers out there I implore you
to give this wine a shot. It has all of the characteristics of a
Riesling just not as long on the palate as, say a German Auslese. It
provides the same sweet, rich and creamy texture
as most Riesling’s and dessert wines. It is priced a bit steep ($24 -
$29/bottle) considering the small size of the bottle (which is also a
nice looking thin blue in color) but well worth it. Highly recommend it
for those lovers of sweet dessert wines to
finish off a meal.
And now on our return trip we head to Napa Valley, California
Cakebread 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon:
Had the pleasure of consuming this with our dear
friends the “Blacks”. Cakebread is one of Napa Valley’s Top Producers
of quality wines, both Red and White. The 2009 Cabernet is concentrated
with dark fruit flavors yet bold as a Cabernet
should be. Certainly enjoyable now but surely will gain momentum with
age, say 3-5 years. It also hails from the famed “Stags Leap”
District.
Regusci 2009 Cabernet:
Another Top Notch winery hailing from Napa’s
famed Stags Leap District, Regusi is one of my favorite vineyards. I
was first introduced to them on a trip to New Orleans (Dickie Brennans Steak House) back in 2004 and had the pleasure of
visiting the vineyard this past October on my trip to Napa. The
Cabernet is just superb and soothing to the palate. This wine can
easily cellar for a few more years but why wait if you can drink it now
….

Remember to always drink responsibly
and with every glass of wine, so must a glass of water!
